Expert Mission to Azerbaijan
The Agro-Information Centre (AIM) in Azerbaijan implements a project to improve the livelihoods of farming families as well as Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in five regions of central Azerbaijan via sustainable agricultural practices, including reclamation of badlands. The project is implemented in the regions of Agjabedi, Beylegan, Barda, Tartar and Zardab. Avalon has assisted AIM to further develop the organic farming component.
Goals
The mission had the following goals:
- Reviewing and providing recommendations on the approached and strategy used for introducing organic farming activities in two central regions of Azerbaijan.
- Providing practical and theoretical imputs and advice to the project staff on organic farming.
- Providing guidance for the development of training modules on organic farming.
- Identifying the needs for staff capacity building.
- Giving advice on useful links and contacts for further education, training and promotion of organic farming.
- Identifying possibilities for establishing future cooperation in the field of organic farming.
The Avalon expert mission was executed in October and November 2011 by Prof. Dr Vladislav Popov. The AIM in Azerbaijan is co-funded by EED (Germany) and Oxfam-Novib (the Netherlands)
