22 July 2010: Change of Plans
Earlier we announced our yearly events to be held in Romania in October 2010. Due to organisational difficulties we have changed our original plan. Our Network Meeting and Open Conference will now be held in November 2010 in Slovenia.

13 May 2010: Report on exchange visit
From April 20 to 24, 2010, Avalon organised an exchange visit to the Netherlands. All Network members active in some part of the market chain or in related policy-making were invited. The group consisted of 18 enthusiastic participants from ten Eastern European countries. This five-day visit was part of the Avalon Network Programme, aiming to stimulate the development of organic agriculture. The programme was supported by DG Environment of the EU.

6 April 2010: Network Programme 2010
We are pleased that DG Environment of the European Union will support this year's programme to strengthen networking connections in CEE countries (including new EU member states in this region), Caucasus countries, Turkey and Central Asian countries. Avalon will be organising several meetings, conferences, exchanges visits etc.
Some information and events organised in this programme are only open to Network Members. Do you want to become a Network Member? Please apply for a membership.

7 January 2010: The preliminary guide: Pro-biodiversity business: Let’s get it going! was published
It is our pleasure to inform you that Avalon has published a preliminary guide into the development of pro-biodiversity business in South East Europe and beyond. The aim of this publication is to provide insight into the concept of pro-biodiversity business, the opportunities in this area and the dilemmas a company could face. The ultimate objective is giving information on how to start a pro-biodiversity business, how to add value to pro-biodiversity products and how to promote this concept as a promising way to conserve biodiversity. Not only to businesses in South East Europe, but also to organisations and consumers in the Netherlands. This document, published together with CREM, was made possible with a grant from the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment.

5 February 2009: The Dutch Postcode Lottery supports Avalon’s work with € 500,000 in 2009
At the Postcode Lottery’s yearly Gala Meeting on 5 February 2009, Avalon received a cheque worth € 500,000. Besides this amount, the Lottery awarded Avalon and Ark Foundation a further € 2,860,376 for an extra project.

Cycling for Nature Conservation
This summer, three students, Tomas Majchrzak, Frederik Winterwerp and Peter Winterwerp, are going to cycle from the North Cape to Athens
. Their goal is to ride 6000 km through 12 different countries to raise money for charities who contribute to both social development AND nature conservation in the new EU member states. Read more
