Welcome to the Avalon-site

Where biodiversity meets agriculture and agriculture goes organic.
Welcome at Avalon.

What do we do?
We support rural communities in forming a more sustainable society. With our projects
we empower local farmers and their organisations with new knowledge and techniques about organic agriculture and agri-environment. We achieve our aims by:
• Developing agro-environmental policy programmes;
• Advising on organic production, market & chain development;
• Setting up demonstration farms;
• Training local trainers;
• Publishing guides and other communication materials.

Where do we go?
Our home ground is the CEE region and beyond. Here we bring lasting solutions in vulnerable agricultural areas, post-war regions and countries hit by a disaster. Read the summary of our recent Afghanistan report on Organic Farming.

Why?
We believe in building sustainable rural societies. For nature’s best and for the planets best interest. Social conditions and local economy must profit from our projects in the long run.

How do we succeed?
Through working together with local partners, so knowledge will remain;
Through connecting people in our network programme and sharing knowledge together;
Through organising capacity building events to meet up with organisations, governments, universities and associated experts.
See our conferencesite for information about our latest Avalon Event in Bulgaria, fall 2009.

Who support us?
The financial support of several organisations such as the Dutch National Postcode Lottery, the EU (DG-Environment), and several Dutch Ministries (Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Nature & Food Quality and Housing, Spatial Planning & the Environment) enable us to realise our projects.
